We start the day by dropping into picturesque Simpson’s Gap in the early morning light and perusing the terrain for black-footed rock wallabies before heading to Ellery Creek Big Hole. Here we’ll spend time exploring, swimming if you so desire, gazing up at timeless cycads clinging to the rock faces, and taking in the incredible bird life and flora of the Ellery Creek oasis. Late morning we’ll head off to the towering cliffs of Ormiston Gorge to enjoy a delicious lunch, then you have the option for a short hike up to the Ghost Gum Lookout for impressive views down the gorge, and yet more chill out time by the cool, green waters of the Ormiston River. Once fully waterlogged and sleepy, you can relax on the bus for the scenic drive back to Alice Springs via the remarkable Ochre Pits formation.
